ORIGINAL GLASS FROM
ST. GEORGE REEF LIGHTHOUSE

LANTERN ROOM

On April 1st, 2000, the lantern room of St. George Reef lighthouse was detached from the tower and air lifted to Crescent City by an Army Air Guard Chinook helicopter for restoration. As part of the preparation for the air lift, the glass panels of the lantern room were removed by breaking them as they were rusted in place. However, most of the glass was saved with the intention of using it for fund raising.

Now available to collectors, these fragments of history are available in two formats and all are mounted on hand crafted drift wood by Bill Barton, SGRLPS. The larger pieces have an etching of the lighthouse and come in a numbered, limited edition while the smaller shards are etched with "St. George Reef Lighthouse Preservation Society". Depending upon size limitations, the mounts may also contain a brass plaque with the name of the lighthouse and its dates of service, 1892-1975. All glass comes with a Certificate of Authenticity.

These collector pieces truly meet the definition of "unique" as no two pieces are the same. Some may be as old as 110 years! To our knowledge, this is the first time in lighthouse preservation history that and actual part of a lighthouse has been offered to the public to fund its restoration.

Each one is different and very limited for more information E-mail: sglps@stgeorgereeflighthouse.us.
